de Heem was born in Utrecht in 1606 and died in Antwerp in 1684.
of his father and of Baltasar van der Ast, he has been spending a great part of
his life in Antwerp.
Jan Davidsz de Heem joined the Saint Lucas' Guilde
of Utecht, as a member, and the Painters' Guilde of Antwerp in 1635 or 1636.
Jan Davidsz de Heem married twice : Aletta van Weede the first time in 1625,
with whom he had two sons Jansz in 1628 and Cornelis in 1631 who was also a painter
; Ana Puckers the second time in 1644 with whom he had a son Jan in 1650.
Jan Davidsz de Heem was a great painter of still-life and flower bouquets.
The main characteristics of his still-life are smart transparencies and a great
mastery of light and shadows to give volume to things.
You will find
at the top a painting exhibited at the National Gallery in Washington and at the
bottom an other exhibited at the Leipzig's Museum.
